Making your own stencil bleached shirts is a fun, cheap and easy way to make a cool, one of a kind t-shirt. Screen printing with opaque water based inks ensures to give  bright results with little passes while maintaining fine detail  and a soft to the hand feel. To spray bleach an area of non-white fabric, fill a spray bottle with bleach and water solution (50% water and 50% bleach). You may only need 5 minutes; do not leave it longer than 20 minutes. Have the neutralizing solution ready to stop the bleaching process. You can even place stencils before spraying to create a unique design. This is super easy to do with watered down liquid bleach in a spray bottle.

Remove any smaller pieces of the stencil that still remain, and allow the shirt to soak for about 5 minutes before rinsing under hot running water. If desired, you can also wash the shirt in a washing machine at this point. Mix up a small amount of bleach solution made from 50% cold water and 50% bleach. It’s important to use cold water for your bleach solution as hot water decomposes the active ingredient in bleach and renders it ineffective. Use a cotton swab to add a small amount of the bleach solution to the inside seam of the shirt, and watch it for about minutes to observe how the color changes.

Removing Your Bleach Stencil

Transfer to the neutralizing solution and allow to soak for 10 minutes. Making designs with bleach is super fun and it’s a great way to show your sense of style and personality. If you’d like to add some pizzazz to your clothes, you can use freezer paper to make a stencil and create an intricate design. Also, it’s a good idea to draw with the bleach pen on scrap fabric to get a feel for the flow of the bleach gel. Measure your shirt and decide how big you want your stencil to be. Then cut your design out using your Cricut cutting machine.
